Capt. Luis Leal Jr. was born and raised in Key West, Florida and has fished the waters around Key West and the lower Keys his entire life. Luis is a graduate of Key West High School and the University of Tampa. Luis is also a board member of the Key West Fishing Tournament.
In the fall of 2007 Capt. Luis teamed up with Ben Craig and started up the first ever Marathon High School Fishing Club/Team. The purpose of this club is to educate the kids about different types of fishing styles from flats to offshore and everything in between. The club also emphasizes conservation and catch and release. Members of the club also participate in various tournaments and the members chosen for each tournament will be known as the Marathon Fishing Team. Luis' favorite type of fishing is reef fishing for yellowtail and wreck fishing using live bait and vertical butterfly style jigs.
